Mock Up Work

I have done two mock up covers as I am uncertain which style I will go with.
The second design (above) is inspired by 'Loud and Quiet' magazine covers.

Magazine Contents Analysis- Loud and Quiet

The title 'Contents' clearly states what the page will be about. It creates a legal register and is in a clear, bold and capitalised font, which highlights its importance.
The date is displayed underneath, reminding people what issue it is.

The font used is very small so that a lot of text can fit on to one page, while creating negative space that makes this page appear more pleasing than if there were less space, which would make it look overcrowded. This will also make it easier for the audience to choose what they want to read.

Emboldened subheadings show the main features of the page on the left side third as this is the most appealing information on the page.
On the right side third, the contact information and issue's credits are shown.

At the bottom of the page, one column of text is flush right, while the other is flush left, to signify that they are different from each other.

Lines are used to divide each section.

A few images of pages are included, which would effectively advertise the page to the reader. Each image has a black border so that it can easily be seen against the white background of the current page, as the background colour of all of the other pages is white too.
The Image from the front cover is featured in the top right of the page, crediting the photographer.

Magazine Contents Analysis- Wire

Title

The title of the contents page is "Inside" and is positioned in the top-left corner with the issue number and date. This simple title is in keeping with the minimalist design on the cover, however it contrasts with the Masthead of the magazine on the cover as it sounds as though the contents page is being played down, while the masthead sounds of higher rank, keeping the focus on the name of the magazine.

Other text

The other text on the page is numbered according to page number. The title of each page is in bold, with the sell providing extra information underneath, not in emboldened because it is not as important. The blue text indicates artists that are featured in the issue. The language register is formal throughout; it does not address the reader, it is not private, and it is not casual.

Image

The image off the cover of the magazine is shown in the top-right corner of the page, surrounded by negative space. The caption gives extra information about the splash and is positioned here because it is the main topic of the issue and so readers can clearly see what page the cover story is on.

Colours

As on the cover of the magazine, the colours are dull black and white, but blue has been added to the contents page, a colour that was subtly shown on the cover. These cool colours complement each other well. The colour scheme is also very minimalist.
